During the 2017-2018 school year, our students studied classical music. Our Fall Syllabus included: George Frederic Handel, Gioachino Rossini, Felix Mendelssohn, Edvard Grieg, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Aaron Copland. During Christmas, we completed a 3 week study on Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” This was followed by our 2018 Spring Syllabus: Vivaldi, Mozart, Brahms, Saint-Saens, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Holst. Throughout the year, students completed a musical sketchbook that certainly became a keepsake for the school year. We look forward to our next adventure as we continue to stimulate our classroom with great music!
During the winter of 2017, we adopted a new writing program with the goal of creating an enjoyment of the art of written communication. We believe that writing is a useful skill no matter what their career goal may be. All students are working progressively through this program beginning with simple sentence structure to essay writing.
No matter what month we are currently in, we can assure you that we are constantly looking for new ideas and materials to bring to the program. After all, that’s the beauty of home education!
